I don't have sky, but if I did I would ring them and ask what I have to do to cancel it and how much notice I have to give etc.

When they ask why I would tell them I am thinking of going with another company as their equivalent of sky + is much cheaper.

You never know, they may offer you a good deal on sky + to keep you as a customer.
  • Ive had a look round but cant find an equivelent to sky+

It doesn't have to be exactly the same. Tiscali allows you to pause/rewind etc. All you have to say is you fancy going with that as it is free installation and cheaper than your sky package.

They may then say that sky + is much better than Tiscali and they can arrange free installation and maybe cheaper rental. Sky usually offer new customers free installation anyway, and only make existing customers pay for installation. So giving free installation to an existing customer to keep them is not unheard of.
  • I have had trouble with SKY since I had it installed  . I have now told them to shove it  , and e-mailed the following to them. If they can be bothered to even answer, I will post the reply here, but frankly, I'm not holding out much hope as their customer service people couldn't hold their own in IQ test against 5 year olds.:rotfl:

    COPY OF E-MAIL
I had Sky installed about a year ago. I paid around eighty pounds, I think, to have it installed. A service engineer came round and gave me a card for an old Sky box that was left in the house by the previous owner and then connected the box up to the old dish that was fixed onto the house.
I was already pretty hacked off at paying for something that took two minutes and required no new parts when I discovered that he hadn't bothered to connect the phone line, which obviously meant I could not access Box Office. For the last year, I have had no access to this service, which suited me as I felt that if you could not be bothered to install your equipment correctly, then frankly, you weren't going to get any more money out of me.
I was phoned last week by Sky to ask me if I was "enjoying" the service provided. I informed the young lady that I was not enjoying it , due to the botched installation. Amazingly, her response was to then try and sell me an "extended warranty" on the set top box that you HAD NOT EVEN PROVIDED.
I was fuming at this point, so asked her to discontinue my subscription. She said she would transfer me to the relevant department and promptly cut me off. I then found the number myself, rang Sky and asked for my subscription to be cancelled, stating the reasons why. This time, the "rocket scientist" at the other end of the phone tried to sell me Sky HD! YOU COULDN'T MAKE IT UP!
I had been expecting some sort of apology from you, for your shabby service, instead of which - even after cancelling my subscription -, I have had to put up with Sky ringing my house and wakening the children tonight, still persuing me to buy "extended warranty". Is it SKY policy to rip people off and then badger them for money? Even after cancelling my subscription - because of your POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE - you are still pestering me for more money. This is beyond a joke, and I would like to know; do you really consider this as good customer service?

i seem to remember seeing today in a post currys were offering Sky plus for £49, other than that there was a big display in Morrisons for Sky plus for £75.
I have Sky plus and it great, the live pause is magic, especially when you can pause the prog, go to the loo, make a cuppa, that gives yu the time to ffwd through the ads!!!. The series link also, i used ot curse for forgetting to record parts of a series, just a button press and it records the whole lot.
We did have the HD for a year but cancelled it as it really wasnt worth the extra tenner.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Yes I agree that calling and suggesting that you're leaving should push them into offering you something decent. It really depends on who you get though, as I was on the phone to one guy for about 45 minutes once trying to see what I could get and got nothing, whereas recently I kicked up a stink about my sky+ box playing up (mentioned in the e mail that I have been a loyal customer for over five years, have recommended friends etc) and they arranged to install a new sky+ box with double the memory of my existing one and a free installation. I loooove the new box, especially Sky Anytime! I only worked out a couple of days ago that you can go through Anytime, select the ones you want to see and record them directly on to your box. This is handy as I was always panicking when things I wanted to see on Anytime were at the 'last chance' stage. Anyway......I'm happy with the service I have now so I'd definitely suggest getting in touch. Try sending an e mail; if you search the forums for the Amstrad Sky + issue you should find the e mail address of the person who I first started contact with. Definitely worth a shot. Let us know how you get on :)

sky + HD is on offer for £75 + £30 install...which is half price until the 31st of this month...
    normally £150 and £60...
but if you do multiroom it'll just cost you £75...

then on your next bill via direct debit they will charge you just over what you normally pay then £20 extra a month after that...just cancel multi-room after 3 months blame it on the economy...

but be warned if there is any problems there CS is sh-it...
and if there isn't then its great...
I would recommend HD to anyone...
if you don't want to do that then try
Freesat bbc hd...they promise to have 200 channels up and running by christmas...they also have ITV hd which sky don't and never will...

also they have a £15 online extra if you do it online...although if you also say you have tried to do it online and it wouldn't let you then they may give you this also...as they said they were going to give me it but they haven't...

I have to agree. Their CS is pretty hopeless. I called to upgrade to half price sports deal I got sent. They did that but it did not work. I called back later and was told the deal was out of date so they did not upgrade. We had a discussion, but they would not honour it anyway to keep me as a customer. I asked to be transfered to Cancellations and they accepted it. No fighting to keep me despite being a customwer for 10 years.. What is going on there? I hate the overseas call centre too....
    Now looking for somthing else?

I cancelled my SKY a few months back, they then kept chasing me to come back to them. They offered me a free SKY+ box, free installation and £50 M&S vouchers, I had to subscribe for 12 months and only had to take minimum package (£17/month). I agreed. Unfortuantely they couldn't get a signal because of the big trees in my garden so the installation was cancelled but then a few weeks later they sent the M&S vouchers.

If you can live without your SKY for a few months cancel and wait for the offers to come rolling in from them to tempt you back.
