ATM Rip Off!

Has anyone experienced withdrawing money from an ATM and no cash was dispenced?

Happened to me the other day, quite a large amount and nothing, no cash, no receipt. However, widthdrew the same amount at a sister ATM at the same location a couple of miniutes later, got the money and receipt, I didnt suspect anything wrong as that receipt showed the correct balance as it should of been after the amount in question was took out. So I know the balance of my account, when I left the ATM location was as it should of been, therefore I did not think anything of the first withdrawal that gave me no money. Then suprise suprise, checking my account a few day later and the money, which I didnt get, had debited out of my account.

Filled in an Atm claims form but still heard nothing back, I'm affraid I may loose the money, I've been told that because the ATM in question was not one of my banks ATM that it could take up to 12 working days to sort out.

It can and does (very occasionally) happen and it's a pain having to wait so long to resolve it - probably for a balancing process on the offending ATM.

Fingers crossed you will be fully reimbursed within a few days.
  • If you put a claim in, and the ATM doesn't balance, then you'll probably get your money back.

    It's a pain, but don't sweat it.
  • Another thread where ''Rip off'' has been used when its nothing of the sort.

Why did you not check your balance before making the second withdrawal?

  • I fill ATMs as part of my job.

We balance them weekly and anything that's in our "purge bin" is normally an overage. We report it to our reconciliation team who I imagine banks contact when a customer has a query.

Unfortunately is does happen. For example, If the notes aren't a good quality (slightly ripped or something) then then the purge bin would take them

That's right, we specifically rig our machines to do this, so that we can get charges. Never mind the fact that because banks now effectively share ATMs, most ATMs usually serve less than 50% Barclays customers.

You are not at fault here at all! You certainly shouldn't have done the sensible thing like checking your balance before taking more money, or just asked for a refund on that charge as goodwill.
