A machine for sanding/planing floorboards

Hi All,
I am looking for a sanding/planing machine that will allow me to remove paint from my loose floorboards.
I am planning to rip up my floorboards so I can insulate underneath them. While they are up I thought that it would be great if I can put them through some sort of sanding machine to remove all the paint. This way I can varnish them straight away when I put them back down.
I am sure I saw one in woodwork when I was in school - I knew I should have paid more attention!
Thanks,
Pete.

you could use a electric planer (check screwfix etc) or wait until the boards are back down and use a commercial floor sander.
You can also get them dipped in chemicals which removes everything from them but be warned it always changes the colour (or at least it did for us).0 -

it would be a mammoth task to do all the boards on the bench.
better to relay them first and hire the proper machine to do it.
might be a good idea to do just outside edge boards first though? the machine has a problem getting right to the edges.Get some gorm.0 -
Thanks,
Has anyone used a floor planer to easily strip floor boards?
I am thinking of getting this one:
http://www.screwfix.com/prods/37086/Power-Tools/Routers-Planers/DeWalt-D26500K-240V-4mm-Planer#
However I am concerned about the look of the floor boards since I will have to make two passes per board (since the width of the board is greater than the planing width). Will people notice the overlap?

yes you can get an edge sander, but that would be an extra cost again.
say another 40 quid for the weekend.Get some gorm.0 -
You can generally hire both the large commercial band sander and the edge sander for about £120 for the weekend plus consumables.0
