The first article was written back in July and talks about how the dollar is at an all time low. Since then of course it has recovered remarkably.

The second link is to a book written 19 years ago.

Maybe one day the US will have to face up to its large debt, but I see no particular reason why it should suddenly be a problem now.
  • Just in case Wombat42 is getting anyone worried, can I point out that he seems to have an unhealthy obsession with the possibility of hyperinflation. Apart from this one, you will find he has recently started threads with the following headers:

Hot investment tip - wheelbarrows !!!!

Scary conspiracy theories and paranoia about hyperinflation abounds

The Inflationary Holocaust Happening Anytime Soon

I'm beginning to wonder whether he has some vested interest in spreading scare stories.

Well - if you go by his portfolio strategy (if it hasn't changed recently ;) ) then he has a high exposure to commodity futures, precious metal mining stocks and agricultural stocks (which would probably do well in hyperinflation scenario) and a high exposure to cash (which would do less well).

I have some exposure to these but I'm aiming for a more balanced/diversified portfolio.
