If my gas is 1.924p per kilowatt hour and my electrcity is 8.926p per kilowatt hour is it cheaper to boil a litre of water on my gas hob than in my electric kettle? Obvioulsy the kettle has a rating plate stating its powewr consumption and I can time it and do the maths. How do I do the same thing for a gas ring?
I recon all the brews each day are a significant part of our electricty bill!!!
Any ideas.
Thanks

Whenever this comes up, it is suggested that an electric kettle is faster and more efficient but, as gas is cheaper, there isn't much in it. There are a couple of other factors - a gas hob 'wastes' heat but that warms your kitchen up a bit, you can have a whistling kettle so that you don't walk away and forget and therefore have to reboil. In favour of the electric kettle, it's easier to see how much water you're boiling.
I've switched to a kettle on hob because we now use a stove top coffee pot so only use a kettle a couple of times a day. I only have one small worktop so it made sense to get rid of the kettle.0 -
This question is raised time and again, and probably gas will be marginally cheaper, but any difference is going to be a small fraction of a penny.
Who do you get gas from at that price?0
