Hi guys, I want to clean up firefox a little and can't work out how to:
1) I want to remove some of the search engines in the search bar. I have added one that I will never use and I want to remove it and there are search engines I will never use. How can I get rid?
2) I incorrectly typed my password into a user name ield and I cannot remove it. I don't want to clear all prefilled info, just this entry on gmail.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Depends what tool bars they are, but they will probably be under the tools menu, then in 'extensions', and just click on them, and then uninstall.
Otherwise they might be in your normal windows uninstall, so go Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and then look for them in that list0 -
I can't remeber exactly because FireFox is at home, but:
Search Extentsions are found where you installed firefox (e.g. c:\program fileszmozilla firefox) under a search extensions folder or something. each search engine has 2 files (a .png or .gif or something, and a .ser or .scr or something) Delete them both for each one you don't need.
Passwords - got to tools and preferences then select privacy and click on password manager (or something along those lines) then you can remove saved entries by the site they are for.0 -
It used to be that Firefox kept all search plugins in:
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins
but in the latest versions that's only where it keeps the default ones that come with it at first.
With version 1.5, if you add any new search plugins, it creates a folder in your profile:
C:\Documents and Settings\<<username>>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<<random number>>.default\searchplugins
Just delete the .src and the image file that goes the search you no longer want.
e.g if you don't want the wikipedia search plugin delete wikipeida.src and wikipedia.png0 -

Return to gmail, & enter the correct password. You will then be asked if you want to change it for that site.0 -
sra - I didn't realise that.
I just upgraded to 1.5 last night from 1.0.7 and just copied my old search plugins to the program files\mozilla firefox\searchplugins directory and they worked from there.
I'd prefere to keep a directory full of them anyway so when I upgrade next time I can just copy and paste them all into the same place again.0 -
Thanks very much - got that bit sorted. Any ideas on how to remove data from text fields on an entry by entry basis? The password is in the username field and I can not delete it. It is not stored as a username in the saved passwords options in firefox.0
