Poultry Cat food - Curious

What exactly is in Poultry Cat food? If you get a pack with Chicken, Turkey & Duck - what is in Poultry ? Is it a mix ? Or is there a bird called a Poultry?

I think it's a mix of the poultry birds, chicken, turkey....errr thats all I can think of haha.

Maybe they don't have to specify how much of each is in there if they just call it poultry.

most pet food's actual meat content is under 10% anyway, so you're lucky if there's any real meat in regular catfood. So i would imagine poultry is just a mixture. It always puzzles me that all catfood is brown, since when was salmon brown?!

It's probably the 4% ash mixed in with the 4% meat and fish dereritives that make it that lovely shade of brown.

Ash isn't an ingredient, it's a nutritional analysis used to measure mineral content.

You heat it to over 500C, everything organic (fat, protein, etc) will burn off, leaving only the inorganic components (mainly minerals like potassium and phosphorus) behind. It's a quick and easy way to give a proportion as to how much of a food is minerals.

Looked on Whiskas Website says 4% chicken, also says other meats. My theory is there are usually 4 varieties in each box so they have Turkey, Chicken and Duck hmmm lets just call the last one Poultry as we can think of anything else!
