Moving out of house questions

Hi
After deciding to hand back the keys on my "owned" home, Ive found a really lovely little rental property and the landlord is ok with my being a bankrupt. Im hoping to move out poss the middle/end of November. Sorry if these questions sound really silly....

1. I was going to turn off the water/gas/elec- would this be ok? I keep imagining an electrical fault or something burning the house down and me ending up liable for it.

2. The new house is much smaller than what Ive got now and Im not taking everything. Am leaving old (knackered) sofa and a few other bits I dont want. Also- Im not clearing the garage out either. Is this ok? I keep thinking the mortgage company will bill me for skips etc??

Thanks in advance

Im going to leave it as nice and tidy as possible, just leaving some old stuff.
Think Im worrying far too much about this- Ive even been worrying about what the neighbours will think because the garden could get really overgrown and theyr'e all very "garden proud" in my road.
    Thanks again!

    Don't worry m8.
I cleaned up when I was getting re-possessed, got evicted then received a letter with a bill for the clean-up job.
Bloody cheek!...what's wrong with my cleaning skills? lol
    It's pretty standard procedure.
Just pack & leave when you are ready & concentrate on where you are going not what you are leaving.
    Good luck

As regards to the utilities everything was left on I just notified the utility companies the date of moving out.

When I was repossessed I took my keys as the bailiffs & locksmith turned up so my keys weren't needed.
Can you not return the keys to the building society sandywindsor?
If not I would leave the keys, although there could be damage if entry is needed to change locks, not that you would have to pay for the repair anyway.
I did remove all that I could when I left, but the trouble was I was then living in a hostel so limited space to store.
Oh when I think what I could have taken...........

  • I take it if the bank send me a cleaning bill it will be included in the bankruptcy? I thought they would have added it to the vast list of costs...sols,estate agents etc?

I'll give it a quick whizz round with the vac but I don't think I'm going to do a huge clean.
Ive looked at what Im leaving behind, dining table, big cabinet thing- my new abode is so tiny they won't fit. I may give freecycle a try, so at least someone else can maybe get use out of them.
I can imagine my neighbours swarming all over the place like a plague of locusts, I'll be the talk of that street for years to come.:o

Everything will be included in the BR

That's a good idea & the furniture will probably be dumped anyway so if someone would get use of them that would be good.

Until the next person m8, let them talk you have nothing to hide.
I went back to my street where I was re-possessed saw some old neighbours & they were really understanding & said allsorts 'why didn't you let us know we could have helped you move'.:rotfl: I didn't know what way to take that!
It was nice that they stopped to talk though, they didn't have to.

Dodecanese please Freecycle as much as you can before you go. There are so many people out there who will give your things a good home.

Anything that they try to charge you will be rolled up in the bankruptcy.

It's quite daunting the whole repo thing, but I know I'll be happier in the long run. My neighbours are , unfortunately, pretty horrible, miserable old codgers. I had a screaming row with next door about 2 years ago when he spray painted my car with creosote, and he hates the cat. So I dare say he'll LOVE finding out about the "repossessed bankrupt", I'll be like the devil incarnate, ha ha!!
To be honest Im really looking forward to getting away from here and starting afresh.
Will def give stuff to Freecycle, it's in pretty good nick and hopefully someone will get good use from them.
