ipod repair in the north west area?

Hi there, I have an ipod classic 30gb. The socket where the earphones plug in is faulty and the music comes out of one or neither ear piece intermittently. Took it back to the apple shop, but because it's no longer under warranty, they don't want to know. Only interested in giving me 10% against it on a new ipod.
Just wondered if anyone knew of any places that could possibly repair it.
I am in St Helens, Merseyside and work in Warrington, Cheshire, so any places near to these areas would be very helpful.

Firstly, have you tried using another set of earphones? Many times, it's a break in the wire on the earphones where it goes into the moulded part of the plug.

Hi Conor, yes, unusually for me, I did try that. Although normally I always go for the more complicated solution first !!!:rotfl:

It's still duff though!!

If you put Ipod repairs in the search engine it lists a lot of places in the UK that repair them. I had a battery replaced on mine at a fraction of the cost {and far less turn around time} than Apple were offering. I know you will need a credit/debit card for payment online but if you can take that route

judging by the size of you iPod hard drive (30GB), i think you have the 5th gen iPod Video. if you are sending you iPod off for repair then make sure you tell them that, i'm saying this because when apple stopped production of the 5th gen iPod Video to start on the 1st gen iPod Classic, apple changed the chip sets inside the iPods so they could sell new iPod docks. now i'm not sure exactly what chips were used, but i have heard stories of people sending of 5th gen iPod Videos to be repaired saying that they were iPod Classics, just thinking that the name had been changed, and having them returned COMPLETELY unsusable and unable to switch on / charge due to the wrong chip sets being replaced. just a word of warning.
