Best value scanner?

I'm about to purchase my first scanner and know nothing about them!

I'll mainly be using it to scan receipts - so don't need anything too flash!

What sort of price range am I looking at? How cheap could I get one for?

Will it work with a laptop?

Cheaper to buy online or from a store?

I think you may find that it'd work out around the same price or therabouts to buy a multifunction printer rather than a standalone scanner, so if you could do with a new printer...

I would usually recommend buying anything PC-related online, but you can sometimes pick up some very good printer bargain in the likes of Argos, but it depends what's on offer. If not, then Ebuyer is usually cheapest online, although Play.com offers free delivery so may work out cheaper.

As long as your laptop isn't incredibly ancient and has USB ports, then any scanner or printer available today should work with it.
