Indicators have stopped working

Does anyone know what might be causing this?

Thanks.

Relay? Hazard switch? Stalk switch? Fuse? Bulbs?

    Take your pick ;)

What car, and what symptoms? A little more detail never hurts ;)

It's a Honda Concerto. We've tried the relay, fuse and bulbs and it's not those.

Is it hard to do the Stalk and Hazard switches?

Not 100% sure on a Concerto, but rather than just keep replacing stuff why dont you get it checked by a garage? Did they just stop working or get worse over time? You may be able to clean the stalk switch with electrical cleaner and get a better contact, but if they've just all gone suddenly it's more likely to be hazard switch.

Still worth taking to a garage, a decent mechanic would either be able to plug it into a diagnostics machine or check the hazard/stalk switch for continuity...

its most likely to be the stalks then if youve tried every thing else
try the bulbs fuse and relay again im not being funny but new parts can sometimes be faulty too

  • I don't know what it is like on your car, but most will have a flasher unit, a silver thing about the size of a matchbox.
If you look under the bonnet you may see two of these side by side, one is for the indicators, the second for your hazards. If your hazards are working ok, try switching these two units around, you may find then, your indicators work and the hazards are dead.
If that is the case, all you need is a new flasher unit.

In more modern cars they are built into the hazard switch on the dash, hence my suggestion, so there may not be any under the bonnet. Not sure on the Concerto though, and the OP doesn't say how old the car is.

Dunno about yours, but my clio suffered a similar problem earlier this year and it turned out to be the circuit board...cost a whopping £300 to fix :(

    **edited to add**

Technical term, it was the multi timer :)
  • Easy enough to apply 12VDC to the switch terminals on the relay. Also easy to test for 12V at that relay with the stalk or hazard switch in position.

Concertos are old, earliest will be about 20 yrs old, they are the basis for 2nd series Rover 200 hatch and 400 saloon. I don't know what Rover bits will fit Honda though.
