Can anyone tell me what are the main advantages of having a DVD with a hard disk drive please? Are they worth the extra money ? Thanks.

Well you can record stuff and watch it back, like VCR but no tape.
I myself can never find anything to record...0 -
I probably wouldn't use it either then. Thanks.
p.s. I like your picture.0 -
If you're going to buy a DVD recorder at all, I'd buy a good one with HDD.
That way you can record to HDD and only transfer the stuff you need to DVD. In addition, if you've used DVD recorders for a while you'll have suffered failed recordings. These don't happen anywhere near as often with a HDD unit. Also you'll generally have editing facilities on a HDD recorder which are far in advance of any DVD recorder.0 -
You can also freeze ''Live'' tv by recording a programme and then watching it while it still records.0

The Sony RDR-HXD 710 DVD Player (with integrated Freeview receiver) has just been voted DVD recorder product of the year by one of the home cinema magazines. The 910 is also highly rated.Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Pioneer 433.
80Gb HDD, around £220, records dual-layer as well. Excellent piece of kit.
I generally recommend the Pioneer and Toshiba ranges as good all-round recorders.
Pioneer do one for about £300 which has a Tivo/Sky+ like programme guide built in.0 -
80GB Personal Video Recorder with FREEVIEW £ 99.99, no reviews but it ticks all my boxes @ http://www.aldi-stores.co.uk/

It's a good box but unfortunately doesn't have a DVD recorder.0 -
But it should have a USB port which allows you to download to a DVD writer on PC/laptop.http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/newreply.html?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=1251750#
