As no one mentioned packed bitstream (pbs) support for the players above, I thought it may be useful to dig up some of my previous posts regarding xvid support in DVD players:

In short, I recommend the Yamada 6700 which can still be bought for about £40. The only thing missing is an spdif out. But it does have a coax optical.

If you can get hold of a Targa (the £20 one that Lidl sold last month), even better, as it is every bit as good as the Yamada, but also has the bonus of memory card slots.

when you say coaxhill and spdif is missing what does that mean i will lose (sorry complete newbie to this)

also before i go and buy this does anyone else have any views on this or opions on any other
if i raise my budget to £75 will i get a player ?
also if i went to £75 any recommened recorders out there that play divx downloaded programs
    and is a good recorder

THere are 2 means of connecting a dvd players to surround speakers - via coax and spdif. The Yamada does not have spdif out. The Traga has both.

The Tesco Technika player is just under £80 - see thread in Quick Grab It forum. Supposed to play divx/xvid as well, but I am not sure if it has pbs support. Otherwise, paying more for a player will not ensure better compatibility with codecs , just possibly better build quality. In a year or two, the player will probably be obselete anyway, so personally, I'd just opt for the cheapest, with the best compatibility. I found the Yamada 6700 to be such a player. I think Pioneer and Philips also has players with decent xvid support, but certainly no better than the Yamada one.
