And I was doing so well this month:rolleyes:
just spent £111.53p at MrS:eek:
I haven't learnt my lesson yet....some get PMT, others crave chocolate, I, spend money:eek:
Were some bargains mind you, as there is 1/3 off cleaning stuff, I now have enough stardrops to last 2 years  and was disappointed to find that vinegar doesn't count as a cleaning product;) I did try to enlighten the nice man on the till but feel on deaf ears.
Did I really need a years supply of britta refils just because they are reduced? Did I listen to myself NO:rolleyes:
There is no room in the fridge/freezer/cupboards/overspill cupboards so batch cooking is out of the question for the foreseeable future as a bag mince increases its volume 10 fold!!
Except for milk, fresh fruit and veg we cant possibly need anything else for weeks.....and not going near any shops for the next 10 days...just in case!!!
leaves quietly to update signature......0 -

KAAT - can I ask how you make your naan bread?
I attempted to make some last week and although they looked quite good they seemed to have "layered" during cooking. The top was all puffy as you would expect of a naan but the bottom was quite solid, more like a pizza base.
So I was wondering if I could find a recipe that I would have more success with!0 -
Hi purpleskies
I do this one if its any help..they are yummy

Hello everone.
i have been watching/lurking around on these board with some interest for months now. May i just say how much admiration that i have for what you guys are doing on here. its really is some achievement.
 What with the current state of affairs in this country with the credit crunch and what not im finding it harder and harder to fill my trolley on my weekly trips to the supermrket (even though i work for the big A and get 10% discount. its getting tougher to feed me, hubby and our 5 year old on the budget we have. ive noticed how much prices have shot up recently. theres not much left over for luxuries once i buy the necessitys. (and by luxuries i mean choccie biscuits, ice cream and the like - fun food lol) i have made it my mission to get as much as i can for as little as i can meanwhile keeping a healthy and balanced diet for the family Your forum has given me the drive to do this. Its comforting to know were not the only ones suffering from the dismal economic climate and ive relised now that i need to change how i shop, do more home cooking from sctrach and start shoppping around etc.
Ive also started buying my fruit from my local fruit stall instead of the supermarket and will be doing this from now on (although i plan on trying to grow a few of my own veggies in the spring!!!)
my budget for the week starts on a thursday (hubby's payday) and i set a weekly budget of £50 (£10 of which is on petrol so £40 for the week but think that by posting it will keep me more on track because i tend to overspend and now its kind of crunch time and i really need to cut back, so come thursday ill start posting my spending and hopefully get things under control....................fingers crossed:rotfl:
thanks again guys from your newest recruit in the war on saving and good luck all the newbies like myself xoxo:j

We have spent £225 this month. Going to go over our budget again, but fingers crossed it won't be too much.0

Thanks all - especially for the info about butternut squash skin, I didn't know you could eat it either!
I realise that getting the budget down to £100 from January might be a little optimistic, but I am allowing us £200 in december to do the batch cooking, restocking cupboards thing, so I'm going to try it. (I just might not manage it straight away!!)
Also, thanks for the info about the price of formula milk, I don't have a clue about how much it costs or how long it would last if needed so very usefulWhilst I'm still getting paid there's £50 a month going into a baby account for those things that we've completely forgotten to take account of so hopefully a little contingency there!
Roll on spring and the veggie patch! Broad beans already growing in the greenhouse
Thanks again all (and sorry if this is counted as off topic - I won't do it again!)

Thanks everyone who replied to my question about London vs. eslwhere supermarkets, all your replies were really interesting and there were some great suggestions there, which I will listen to. Thank you, you are the best!
As for the credit crunch, it is great for the people who have CASH. I think that there are so many deals out there, for just about everything, if there is cash available, it is probably the best time to buy stuff than for years back. I just see offers, offers, offers, everywhere (furniuture, travel, clothes, shoes, food....). While during boom times, forget it, everything was sooo expensive...0 -

Have had a great roast and yorkies for tea tonight from half a left over pork joint, battermix (7p)frozen veggies and leftover potatoes made into roasties.
Tomorrow is pasta with pesto and a few chunks of cooked chicken(leftovers) with grated cheese.
Kids are at Grandma's for 3 days so me and OH will be using up tins and freezer stuffs as well as a meal out as a treat.
Have a good idea of what is going to be used up and when and am trying hard to look ahead as when I move overseas I will have to restock all my staples including spices........eeeekkkkkk pricy...
Have boiled eggs at sell by date for egg butties in packed lunches tomorrow, with whoopsied bread rolls and tangerines, jellies and fruits.
