Double Glazing without commission

We've had three double glazing salesmen sitting here for hours each.
When we did not proceed with quotes we receive call after call first dropping the price, then follow up calls asking if we were ready to proceed.
Despite requests for the calls to stop, the continued till we joined the telephone preference service.
I know these salesmen get a commission, but don't want to pay their wages.
I can accurately measure the window sizes required and probably make a better job of fitting them than some of these cowboy installers.
Is there anywhere I can order direct, possibly online, and not have to have a visit from these time wasting salesman.

Are there any independent double glazing manufacturers in your local Yellow Pages - they may make and let you buy and install in 'chunks'. Front windows, then back windows, then side, then doors.
Phone 'em and ask!0 -
You will need likely need planning permission to fit yourself ( DG companies use Fensa cert instead)
Wickes used to sell standard sizes, and I'm sure there are loads of makers willing to manufacture to your own specsAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
How complicated is it to get planning permission
What if you wanted to just change one or two windows?0 -
It's a building regs issue, not really a planning issue I believe.
The windows need to be fitted by a FENSA registered organisation, or you need to have them inspected if you did do it yourself.
If you/your installer are not registered to FENSA, you need to apply to Building Control. It's not planning permission, it's building regulations.
This rule applies to anything with more than 50% glass in I think (so even some doors)
If the windows are upstairs, you need to check they comply with escape route regulations too maybe.
Since the turn of the century, new windows and doors have a date on them. When you come to sell your house a survey could pick up on this - and it might lead to problems selling your house in the future. Buyers (with mortgages) are now expecting to have receipt of your FENSA Certificate that you get when the windows are fitted.0 -
yes sorry - meant to type BR, but for some reason my figures typed PPAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0

There's plenty of on line companies who will quote and supply anywhere in the UK. Type DIY double glazing or buy glazing or just buy windows into Google0
