Preserving poppies!

Ok, so there's always a discussion about when it's to early to wear a poppy - but to cut a long story short I always buy mine as soon as they start to appear about this time of year.
The trouble with this is they get battered and tatty so quickly. I usually buy at least two, partly for this reason and also so I don't have to keep moving it from my jacket to my shirt! (I work with the public so I like to have it on during the day).
Has any one got any ideas for stopping them falling apart? I don't mind paying for more - but it's just annoying to have to wear a tatty one while you wait to find another donation box.
Can I cover it in hair spray? Will it combust when I'm in the pub?
Not a huge issue I know but I thought it might be a light hearted and seasonal discussion!
Cheers

cant think of anything useful except to suggest you buy extras; in one of my jobs it was very important to wear a poppy and I used to keep 1 or 2 extra in my desk drawer;
edited to say, I always support the poppy appeal anyway, used to be a collector and that was fun!... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

this year I've only seen poppies with the sticky bit on the back, they don't have the little green stick, so you can put it through a button hole etc...has anybody seen the normal kind with a pin or a green stick?0

In Gloucester they are the traditional green stickIt matters not if you try and fail, and fail and try again; But it matters much if you try and fail, and fail to try again.

I got mine yesterday and it had the green stalk, but there was also a pin badge version, which i thought was a great idea.0

The ones on sale in the pub in Stoke Bruerne, Northants last Saturday have green stalks. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0

Apparently they are not allowed to give out pins any more due to health and safety. It seems people complained when they got pricked !
The new stick on ones are experimental so may not be in all areas.
My husband had a long discussion with a Poppy seller when the store where our Air Cadets were bag packing had 'double booked' them with the Poppy people. There were nearly very uncharitable sparks but eventually they found a compromise !

How about laminating the paper poppy bit
Penny. x:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
I'm a poppy seller and mine have been supplied with a packet of pins, If anyone asks for a pin I give them one and let them pin it on themselves. As far as I'm aware there isn't a set charge so I let people take as many as they want, there's always masses left over each year.0

My mum's got poppies in her shop and they're the normal kind with the green stalk, and there's a 'paper' of pins in there too. Not sure if there's much you can do to preserve them though, they're only sugar paper so they're going to look a bit tatty after wearing for a while ... Just have to buy more lol!0
