    Hey everyone,

My OH bless him has been on a reductions misson of late and has just presented me with a rather large end of salami reduced to 20p.:money: Seeing as we were having a pasta and "whatever needs eating" meal I cut a little bit up to stir in. But i`m sure there are better ways to use it up. I don`t think I could cut it up into thin enough slices for sandwichs and we have plenty of ham and sandwich meat to use up anyway.

So what can I do with it???

    Kind regards
    Fishcake

You could slice and freeze it for pizza toppings, wouldn't matter if it was a bit chunky.

I also like salami chopped into chunks, lightly fried in some oil and then added to baked beans (perhaps with a dollop of bbq sauce if there is any in the fridge), and serve it with baked potatoes :)

Salami's also nice if you cut it into chunks and saute it with cabbage or similar greens - this also works for chorizo or smoked sausage. Or how about in a potato salad (I'd go for a vinaigrette dressing rather than creamy mayo) or green salad?

I know, this is a bit of a strange question, but I am sure you've had stranger!

I have a packet of sliced salami in my fridge needs using up, OH picked it up on a whim, and I've never really eaten alot of it, I do like it but, it's not a big deal for me.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might use this up ?

    Thanks

  • I use salami as a pizza topping or in a tomatoey pasta sauce - fry off onion and garlic add some mushroom or courgette and fry a little longer, deglaze with a splash of red wine, cooking port or red wine vinegar and add a tin of chopped tomatoes, the salami cut into quarters (unless it's a small diameter one) and some dried oregano, you can also add a pinch of dried chilli flakes if you like a bit of oomph, and cook down til most of the liquid has evaporated, serve with whatever shape pasta you have handy. It is also nice with a good dollop of cream cheese or ricotta added at the end - it'll be ready as soon as it has combined into the sauce.

I use it on the top of HM pizza, or to jazz up a shop bought one.

Nice in sandwiches with brie too.

I chop it and add it to an omelette, lovely on pizza too.

Its also nice with a tomato based sauce with pasta, i like salami and mushroom. One of my favourite budget meals is cheats paella with chopped salami, a packet of savoury rice with extra onions, garlic and peppers added. Very tasty and very cheap and easy to make.
