Help - How do I open this faucet

I've been trying to figure out how to open this faucet (picture: http://www.selfhelpforums.com/showt...38978#post38978) so I can replace the washer and stop the dripping. I know that there is usually a hex screw or the top lifts off to open the faucet, but I don't see anything like that on this faucet. I also attempted to locate the name of the manufacturer, but I could only find an "Si" insignia on the stopper, and I don't know what that stands for. Please have a look at the picture and tell me if you have any idea how to open the faucet or identify the manufacturer.

Thanks for your help.

  • that works, right i havent got a clue, tried hitting it with a big hammer?
  • Often plain heads pull straight off, although not very easily if they have been there for some years. The arrangement would suggest that, the shroud under the head probably unscrews to uncover a backnut securing the valve in place.

Proceed with caution. The other possibilities include left hand thread (unlikely as this would hinder operation) or a grub screw in the side (ruled out alread I imagine). If it was me I would gently prise under the rim of the head with a wide screwdriver in a rag to see if it showed any signs of give, but I would always in advance warn my customer that maintenance on a tap of this age might incur some damage in process.

As I said, proceed with caution, you don't want to be shelling out for a new basin as well!
