Best Price Flights To Zurich

I am planning to visit Switzerland next August and I have no room for manouvre with regard to dates.
Given that I know where I want to depart from (either Heathrow or London City) and I need to travel to Zurich what are the best tactics to get the flights as cheap as possible. It seems the only choice of airline is Swiss so it really comes down to finding the optimum booking date to get the flights as cheaply as possible.
The flights are already on sale, do I book now or wait an hope for a better price or are they like the no frills airlines i.e. the possible price is given to those who book earliest?
Any advice welcome.

Have you tried doing a few searches on the Swiss Int Airlines website?
Have you tried searching for flights departing for in 7 days, two weeks, a month, three months, six months, a year? ..... That should give you a clear indication of how Swiss Airlines flights are affected by booking date in relation to departure date.
From what I saw in two minutes of looking, economy flight prices seem to vary by a pound or two whether flying in a two weeks time or a years time.

Air France have direct flights from London City, and last August they were very cheap. Swiss generally have specially low fares on that route in August: book about six weeks before date of travel.0

I need to travel from LHR or LCY, the cheap BA flights are from LGW. Public transport is not an option and whilst getting to LHR would be expensive by taxi, LGW would be even more expensive!
Also only the Swiss flights match up conveniently with the Swiss public transport to avoid a lot of hanging around.
The reasons stated above are why I was only trying to get the best deal on 'Swiss' rather than simply the best deal around!
Thanks to those who offered advice

With Swiss the earlier you book the cheaper, thought about flying to somewhere else in Switzerland and getting the train across? Not sure if it would make it that much cheaper though.2p off is still 2p off!0

I have always found trains in Switzerland to be frequent, and I have never had to wait more than half an hour for a train in either Zurich or Geneva airport, regardless of which airline I have flown with. I suppose it depends what your final destination is though.0

Post #6 is strange. Public transport is not an option for getting to Gatwick, but is the way to go within Switzerland. I cannot imagine why someone cannot cope with the trains to Gatwick, but plans to use them for their onward journey from Zurich airport.
As for the point about flights matching up will with the Swiss public transport system, remember that your flight may well be delayed.0 -
Hello Voyager2002. Message #6 is not strange, a little badly explained possibly.
Within the UK public transport from where we live involves a taxi ride from the sticks to the station followed by two train changes to get to London. Then of course getting from a main line station to LHR or LCY. All this for a flight that leaves at about 8am on a Sunday morning and with a toddler, a teenager and two adults (and baggage).
Within Switzerland it is simple. The trains are reliable and whislt not frequent they are regular. Swiss railways also operate 'fly rail' whereby having checked your luggage in at LHR or LCY you do not see it again until it is delivered to you in your resort. I think you will agree that public transport in Switzerland using modern reliable and without luggage is quite different to using what passes for public transport in this country especially when loaded down with luggage.

We flew into Basle with a baby, a child, a teenager four adults a bike box and assorted other luggage, the train to and from Zurich was a dream, however we did leave three cars at the airport here.0
