Hurghada, Egypt Hotels

We are considering an all inclusive holiday to Hurghada for Christmas and New Year. I have never been to Egypt before and don't know anyone who has been to Hurghada. I've looked at various reviews on different websites but am bamboozled as practically every hotel has very contrasting reviews - people seem to either rave about the hotel or completely slate it. Can anyone recommed a good hotel? I have two young kids age 2 and 5 and am looking for something 4 or 5 * - with enough happening to keep them entertained - apart from that I'd just like somewhere clean with decent food.

personally i am not a fan of hurghada as its a bit too big and busy for my liking, its also being majorly developed (well was in january when i was last there)
instead we prefer el gouna which is much quieter and less developed, in fact we are off there in a couple of weeks to the rihana resort, it does have a kids club but no idea how good it is sorry cos my son is too old for it
for most of the hotels in egypt i would look at taking at least one star off the rating ie if says 4star expect 3 etc, gernerally speaking i have found the food to be reasonably good but have also heard people moaning like mad about it so i think u have to read between the lines with these reviews and take them with a pinch of salt
HTH but feel free to ask moreWhen you know better you do better0 -
I went to Hurghada in August, stayed at the Festival le Jardin, about 5 miles outside Hurghada, on the way to El Gouna which we visited. Very clean, friendly and quiet during day, very upmarket. Wouldn't recommend my hotel to be honest as you say you have little kiddies and hotel was literally in middle of nowhere with not much to do apart from laze around pool (perfect for me though!). So maybe that's one to cross off your list?0

I've stayed quite a few places in egypt now and every year we always go back to the Hilton Plaza its fantastic the staff are really nice the food is brilliant and its nice and clean, there is always a bunch of 8 of us, we have travelled quiet a fair bit and know what we like and so far the hilton plaza does it for us its only 20 minutes from the airport, TBH I think el gouna is too far out and remote there is nothing to do there really 1 tiny casino and golf. Hurghada has alot to do with shops and things also the Hilton has a fantastic beach the best ive seen by far!

I went to Hurghada a couple of yrs ago and stayed at the hilton, they had a kids club but not sure how good it was as we didnt have kids.
the hotel was lovely and clean and the food was fantastic, i`d def recomend it.:undecided:undecided0 -
Can only reiterate what has been said about El Gouna. Absolutely love it as it's clean, safe & totally hassle free. Didn't like Hurgada at all as it's too busy & too much hassle when you try to walk down the street. With your kids being so young, I guess they would be more intersted in the beach than nightlife, bars & shops. We stayed at the Three Corners Ocean View overlooking the marina but as has been said, The Rihana is better suited to children.
Have a look at http://www.elgouna.com/Home.aspx?SectionID=170 -
Thanks for the help - I will have another look at hotel availabilty and have something to go on now. Unfortunately bars and nightlife aren't a priority anymore so a nice clean hotel with reasonable food and plenty of sunshine is what we're after.0

i think if u dont want bars etc u might be better off looking outside hurghada (like el gouna) at some of the quieter places
bear in mind in december the days are much shorter and it can be quite breeze so u will need some warmer clothes for the evenings and the days are much shorter
am going for 2 weeks on 7th and cant wait

I know weather in December can be a bit cooler especially at night hopefully wont be as bad as the year we went to Cyprus for New Year - first time it had snowed in Phaphos for over 20 years! The young barman took great delight in telling us that it was the first time he had been snow apart from in the mountains.
Have a great holiday. x0
