Itchy legs

Hi

Wonder if anybody can help me.

I suffer really badly with itchy legs after i have shaved. Its worst at night and i often wake up in the middle of the night and it is really bad. If my nails are long enough, i can even scratch myself and make them bleed.

Not sure whether its the heat from being in bed which cause's it, but i can't seem to find anything to help. I have tried applying baby powder after shaving and i even bought a cream made by simple, which is supposed to help people who suffer with itchy skin, normally caused my ezema or dermetitus and even that does'nt work.

Does anybody have any handy tips that may help me with this?

Thanx

    Hi,
I also suffer from this so I know how annoying it is!
Things I found to have helped are:
    1) Its a pain but make sure you keep you legs hair-free as often as possible, I find using hair removal cream made the problem as bad as shaving, but waxing helped, especially as the hair grows back finer and slower over time
2)Exfoliate your legs really well in the shower, a scrunchy or exfoliating gloves work better than a body scrub.
3)Keep them really moisturised, greasy thick moisturisers work best but if they still arent enough, I find putting Sainsburys Little Ones Baby Oil Gel on wet skin in the shower then patting dry really helps.

Try not to scratch them though, I find the more I scratch the harder it is to stop!
Good luck to you and your legs :-p
If it hurts no-one, let it be

Waxing will help and its not painful

Loads of moisturiser, I find its the shaving thats making me itch - drying my skin out.

A fresh blade, going over and over the same area really irritates me
  • my DD suffered from this and she took antihistimane tablets - cheap ones - and they improved almost immediately. She only took them for about 2 -3 weeks and at the same time, she used a scrunchi in the shower and 'scrubbed' her legs with that and moisterised ever day. She still does that and so far she says the itchiness hasn't come back.

    Hope this helps.

Try E45 itch relief if it suits your skin - it helps with itchy skin generally but not sure if on post-shaved skin - worth a look though :D

I second this suggestion - it is brilliant and works a treat! Last time I bought it, it cost about £3.45 from Wilkos

  • Hi you have my sympathies, I suffered from the day I started shaving my legs  until the day I bought an epilator 20 years later when the itching stopped :T. When the itching started I scratched and I couldn't stop until my skin bled, the hotter my legs got the worse it got.

20 years later I use an epilator once a week and the itching has stopped pure relief!

Try epilating or waxing this could possibly cure you completely!

    Good luck!
  • I have this as well! I used to scratch my legs until they bled. I found that the shaving was making my legs really dry and now I use cocoa butter moisturiser twice a day. I've tried others including nivea, the best moisturisers I've found are nice and greasy ones!! :D I get the cocoa butter moisturiser from marks and sparks, a tub is £5.

Another tip I found really helped was only smoothing the moisturiser on in a downwards direction as that is the way your hair grows, so it is smoothing your skin and not roughing it up.

    Good luck with it x

    Mine are driving me mad.

Tied E45 itch cream, Lanacane itch cream. Arbonne baby lotion (read that was fantastic), it isn't.
Just taken an antihistamine, fingers crossed it works.

I wonder if an antihistamine cream would work, or is Lanacane an antihistamine cream?

Maye its shaving & I should use Nair/Immac?
But if its dry skin, surely something strong enough to disolve hair will dry the skin out a lot?
Can't wax, I like them hair free & I don't want to have to let them "grow back" in order to get bald again.

I used to have really itchy legs, just having a shower made them itch and someone told me to try Diprobase, I think you can get it at the chemist but they gave me one they got on prescription to try. Also, not scratching but rubbing your legs gently (not in a kinky way, ha) with your fingertips has the same effect as scratching but is more gentle!
