Logging into Gmail on iPod Touch

I've just bought an iPod Touch and have tried logging into my Gmail
account via the browser, but I get a message saying that my 'username
and password do not match'. If I then reset my password I can log in
on my iPod Touch but when I try and log in on my laptop using the same
password it again says that 'my username and password do not match'. I
am baffled as to what I'm doing wrong or how to resolve it.
Can anyone help please?
