Best colour paint for hallway and landing?

Hey all,

Looking at painting my hall and landing/stairs as in a new build and it's all in magnolia.

At first this was great but now we have a dog and it's just not practical. It's not a tiny hallway but dont want to pick a colour that makes it look tiny. We have cream tiles downstairs and then cream carpet upstairs so we can pretty much pick any colour. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas? Homebase have their 3 for 2 offer on at the moment so am wanting to get some tomorrow or as soon as possible.

Hope someone can help xxx

  • I just painted my hall in Dulux Light & Space range, and it has made a big difference to how light and big my hall looks. The colours are quite pale, but I have a boxer dog and it doesn't seem to have been a problem so far. Or, in the room the dog spends most time in, I bought their other range, can't remember whats its called, Diamond or somethin like that? It says 10 times tougher on the tin, and it's brilliant for just wiping the dog marks off the wall, even thought it's a paleish yellow. It does cost a lot more per tin, but as you only use 1 or 2 tins I thought it was worth it.

Holly manages to make a mess of the hallway as she constantly shakes and the mud/water goes everywhere. We are unable to dry her either.

Thanks for that though, just was thinking of a darker colour just in case. Thanks x

I did same as smartpicture and it does make a difference, we have a dark kitchen due to lack of light and only a small wall and even that looks lighter than before

The paint isnt cheap and it may need two or 3 coats. Our hallway and kitchen wasnt dark colours, hallway need 3 coats and kitchen two

Do you have a dado rail?
If so, how about a darker beige (mud/dirty wet dog colour ;) ) below & lighter cream above. Certainly go for the wipeable or diamond finish paints. It's worth the extra.

So no 'light and space' paint even though two of us said it works

n'tIt reflect light back into a room ideal for your hallway I had magnolia type colour in kitchen and bedroom and it was light enough but using light and space did work it is much lighter abet at expense
