ipod problem

The ipod that I bought my son last Christmas has given up. It won't turn on and doesn't seem to take a charge.It is still under guarantee. I bought it on-line from John Lewis who advise me to contact Apple directly. Over the last 10 months my son has transferred many tracks onto his ipod, many of them bought from itunes. Before I contact Apple I'd like to know what Apple are likely to do with the ipod and what will happen to the stored music.
Has anybody any experience of a similar situation?

    Your contract is with JL not with apple. JL are trying to pass the buck here, the item has become faulty within 10 months of purchase and it is down to JL to replace the goods.It is then down to them to return the iten to the manufacture {not you}
    I would get back intouch with JL and remind them of the consumer act. If you return it to Apple I know {with items that I have had outside the warenty} it will cost you a lot to have it repaired andyou will most likely have to wait a number of weeks {at least} for it to be repaired and returned to you.
    Force the issue with the place you bought it from, Not the manufacture
