Motivation is lacking
Anyone fancy writing a 700ish word essay for me on "The financial challenges individuals and household face can be affected by wider changes in society and the economy. Outline economic and social changes over the last thirty years that have affected the issues to be taken into account in financial planning for retirement. ":rolleyes:
Mind you I just logged into OU website to try and find a transcript of the tutorial about pensions (the DVD itself crashes this computer  Ex has said he'll help me set up a proper home network on Friday while waiting for DD to finish getting sorted so that I can print from my laptop and access this computer from my laptop which reminds me I need to find the software CD for the printer  ATM I can only surf from my laptop through this network.) and there are quite a few of us who are still doing this work :rotfl: Best get back to it though....
Well you could pick out some headlines from 30 years ago and the present day re economic crisis etc and the struggle for families to afford homes, job insecurity, food prices etc. Include war, both then and now, and the effect this has on economy and social change re home ownership being a desired state however the shift has now swung back toward renting until things stabilise...............the pension stuff I'm stuck on.:oDFW Nerd 267. I am so tired I'm finding it hard to write the essay. So I have a choice, stay up and work or go to bed, get some sleep and get up at 5am instead and put in another hour before my bath etc? I think I'll so do the latter. I really need to plan this bit out properly. Right, decision made, I'm going to get the bits I need to dispatch this together NOW, go to bed and get up really early tomorrow, have a bath & wash my hair then spend at least an hour on it in the morning. Maybe the break will clear my head enough..if not I'm in trouble

Nicki, you could maybe mention that the age of the population (life expectancy) has increased dramatically over the last 30 years due to advances in health, medicine and drugs managing to keep people alive for longer, plus diets are healthier and jobs are less dangerous.
These factors, alongside the welfare state adage, cradle to grave, do not really count for those of us who cannot count on a pension in our retirement.
Given the disastrous investments ala Iceland and the US, I doubt there is any state pension funds left for the likes of you and me.
Therefore it is wise to make plans now for our retirement and not be reliant on the state to provide a sustainable or liveable pension.
Just a thought to aid you in essay hell.:DDFW Nerd 267. DEBT FREE 11.06.08
