When deleting, did you delete the songs from a playlist or the library?

When you delete from a playlist, the song remains in the library, so you can simply re-add the song to the playlist by finding the song in the library. If you delete from the library, there is a dialogue (unless disabled) to ask if you wish to remove it from your hard drive. iTunes normally just deletes the listing in the library and not the actual copy on your hard drive unless you ask it too. So the songs you are after may still be in your music folder on your hard drive.

If you asked iTunes to delete the song from your hard drive then you will not have the copy, so you have a couple of options (among many others):
If you downloaded the songs from iTunes, you can simply re-download them free of charge.
If you want to copy songs from the iPod back to the computer, you will have to use a third party program to do it. I'm not very knowledgeable in this area, but if you do a search on a software site such as http://www.download.com, you'll be able to find something. I searched for ipod copy and got this result, but I don't know which ones to trust as I don't use any of them.

    Hope that helps you.

you can use windows explorer (eg my computer). just enable disk usage in itunes > browse my computer until you find your ipod > click tools (or if vista, press alt then click tools) > folder options > view tab > enable show hidden files > apply > ok > click ipod_control > music. all your music should be in there but with random characters for the file name, but all the song titles etc are still in the ID3 tags.

and once you have finished, set the folder options to do not show hidden files and folders.

    hth:)
  • I am using Aniosoft iBackup to transfer music from iPod to computer.a great third-party program which enables you to transfer music, movies, podcasts,TV shows, photoes from iPod/iPhone to iTunes and computer as audio files too. And both the backup in the storage device can be recovered and restored with no any change and no any risk. And the data in the iTunes is quite in accord with the iPod's data including its playlists, rating and etc.
So this one is also an useful backup program for iPod/iPhone users. It's a necessary tool especially for iPod/iPhone users who happend to have a new computer and lose iTunes' data on the old ones.
I found the solution at Yahoo answers and i'll show it here since i'm a person who likes to spread words after using something amazing.

Sharepod. It lets you browse the ipod and copy files to / from it. You can even enable disk use and copy it to the ipod so you can access it elsewhere.
