How to get files from my hard drive

Hi there,
I posted last week as my PC wasn't working - the monitor had no signal. I've not got it sorted yet, my dad tried to use the video card from my sisters PC to see if that was the problem but hers didnt have a separate video card and he couldn't use her pc to get to my hard drive as the connections were different. My dad bought a cheap card today and tried it in pc but no joy.
So now I have no pc for a while and I desperately need to get college work from the hard drive on it.
As I'm not technical could anyone help - what are my options? I also have photos, my daughters word files she needs and my itunes library! What is the best/easiest way to do this?
I'd go buy a new pc but doesnt solve my problem of the stuff on that hard drive that I need!
Thanks in advance:p

Hi there,
Thanks so much for that link Can I just ask you- would that just plug in to the hard drive then the usb into my laptop to access it? Sorry, I'm not very technically minded! And is that a universal connection, so would it plug into any hard drive?I really need to sort out a new signature!0 -

Yes that's correct, some of these adaptors come with their own mains power supply so that the drive can be connected via USB in isolation. That was just the first that I found when searching for an IDE to USB adaptor. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
