I Want to buy a car, please advise

Hi All,

Looking at buying a car in the next few weeks, and have a car in mind, however has anyone got any tips/hints when dealing with the sales people?, and what to look for in/outside the car?.

Thanks.

    Hello kitty_and_gucci_2008

I'll move your thread to the 'Motoring & Public Transport' board.

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

    Regards

Check out What Car website, has tips on buying cars in general plus what to look for on most models. As for sales personnel......just take anything they say about a car with a pinch of salt, be very negative/non commital on test drive and laugh out loud when they mention the price. REMEMBER, they want to manipulate you into buying a car, you need to take control of any conversation/negotiation.

The single best piece of advice - infact the only bit of advice you should listen to is thus:

Take someone who knows something about cars. Otherwise you might as well turn up, drop your pants and bend over.
  • Make sure you get a free airfreshener...
  • Can you give us more info? We might be able to tell you what to look for on a certain car etc

And what sort of place are you buying from?
Buying a second hand car for £600 is a pretty different experience to buying one for £6000.
