Kitchen splashbacks - Stainless Steel or Glass (merged threads)

needing inspiration...... I am going to get a stainless steel splash back as painted wall is starting to look worse for wear.
Once the stainless steel has been stuck to the wall, this would leave an edge at the sides
What would be the best way to deal with this?
TIA

We've tiled to both sides of ours.0

Thanks lemoncurd for answering. I already have a couple of rows of tiles but my cooking must be heavy duty, as the greasy stains are higher up the wall!!
Tiles would be the answer but the chances are I would be unable to get the same tiles as they were bought years ago!!

I can't help you with your edging problem, however just to let you know I ordered a stainless steel splashback online from B&Q (part no 0000003232040) - this is the 600mm.
When I looked for the price initially it came up as £60, however once I ordered it, I was charged £44.
After seeing your post, I just had another look and it is showing as £55 - so the price it shows is not necessarily what you will pay. It also stated that it would be delivered within 5 weeks and I received it in less that 10 days.
Hope that is of use to you!! :xmassmile0 -
If you plan to buy one soon, get one with an MDF backing on it.
The backing makes the stainless sheet rigid...looks a lot better.
These can be bought from ebay. One company I use is excellent.
They will cut the splashback to any size you tell them.
Delivery was really quick.

I find tiles are easier to clean than stainless steel.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Hi mah jong
Im in the same predicament, im thinking of a full with glass splashback, in the green frosted glass maybe. Only places i found so far on google are very expensive so im starting to look into glass companies local to me. do a search for glass splashbacks and look at some of the designs they look the bee's knee's

for the kitchen, seen some lovely designs on the net but at over £1000 i think maybe i should look to be a MSE and find some cheaper! Does anyone know of any companies in South East (or that deliver) who'll happily cut me a size of glass i require?
Any how can companies charge this sort of prices? is it purely because its very modern looking or does glass manufacture/cutting and edging cost a lot to do?
Many thanks in advance

I would suggest you ring through the glaziers in your local Yellow Pages and explain to them exactly what you need it for, and they should be able to advise. Ring quite a few as prices vary a lot.
Bespoke glass can be fairly expensive, but I'm sure you can reduce the cost from £1000. As an example I recently got some glass cut for a table top. It was toughened 10mm thick and measured 1m x 1.8m - this cost around £160 (although quotes ranged up to £250)
Edit: Forgot to say, they should all deliver, as there is no way you can transport glass safely yourself.
