Pickled knows this is the type of house that will probably not be losing value in the current crash, hence the second part of her question. I wouldn't be so unkind as to suggest that she has made the whole thing up, for on the 'net, anything is possible.

However, even with a price tag of £2.6m, a house may not be capable of delivering what you desire, hence my post.
What do you mean? The asking price has dropped from £3m. Obviously it won't end up in reach for your average FTB but that's a heck of a drop to just dismiss out of hand!
  • A relative of mine has fallen in love with a property near me, but it's under offer.

Is her idea of a "dream house" a massively expensive mock-Tudor in the stockbroker belt?

For some reason Northern Rock won't give me a 100% mortgage on this detached house requiring a little renovation.

Lick of magnolia and some double glazing..s'all it needs... and perhaps some brushed steel fittings from Tesco Home+......

That has to be the ungliest building in the world, BTW.

Sorry, not using Firefox or property Bee atm, so no idea about that. I thought these high end places were immune to the woes that beset the rest of us, or does it mean that the place was over-priced to start with?

It's charming in its way, but less than an acre means relatively close neighbours, while the aerial photo shows that it is actually on an estate! For 2.6m I would want at least 20 acres. There's scarcely room for a few goats and a large veggie patch, let alone a couple of polytunnels.

    Davesnave,

Not ALL estates are council owned, or sink estates you know!:rotfl:You obviously don't know what the word 'estate' means!:p The Webb Estate is an AREA darling!

A very nice area too - which is why rich people like to live there.

Anyway, you'll be relieved to know my cousin will not be buying it now as it's SOLD!

But not to worry - she's still looking for a property on the Webb estate.:p

Having read the history of that house I'm tempted to go for a viewing. My in-laws are coming for the weekend in a fortnight and a tour of that house will be cheaper than a trip to Hampton Court Palace.

I hope you don't mind me using your future gaff as a cheap tourist destination Bf.:D

Having been once owned by Stanley (he of Livingstone fame) it must be interesting. However, if you turned up for a viewing in a mondeo, I think the agent would know you were extracting the urine.
In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:

Apparently it went on sale in August and dropped from £3m to £2.65m. And yes, most likely overpriced then and still now. Still a nice drop though. :)

I have a fair idea of what an estate is, having lived on one for the past 21 years.

Although my comment was tongue-in-cheek, I think it did make a valid point, which is that 0.9 acres is relative cheek-by-jowl living for properties as large as that advertised. On my estate, we have about 0.25acres each in my part, but our properties have a relatively small footprint and no outdoor swimming pool, so the amount of available ground for landscaping, growing trees etc to create privacy is probably half that of the Purley house. Now, considering that houses in my road are 8 times cheaper than the Purley property, that gives some perspective.

Of course nobody, other than a raving BTL lunatic, would want 8 houses in my road, I accept that!

Value is very much in the eye of the beholder so, while I take your point about the Webb estate being an exclusive area, for £2.6m I would want my own estate. It would probably come with at least 20 acres of land and enough properties to generate sufficient income for its upkeep, and no, it would not be close to London or the South East.

I look forward to hearing what your cousin eventually buys.
