Locked out of ebay account - scam??

Hi
Have just had an email from ebay saying that someone has found out my password and that I need to reset it. When I tried my old one, indeed my account was locked. So I followed what it said in their original email and clicked their 'forgotton your password' link. This sent me another email which I followed the link from but it then asks for my username and password (which isn't working) so I am going around in circles!! I have tried 'contact us' but again this requires you to sign in first using your password... not very helpful, thanks ebay!
I am now a bit worried that this is some kind of scam, it doesn't help that I have 2 items ending in 5 hours and need to access my account!!
Any ideas?
Many thanks

Phone them up. The number is at the top of the home page. Id be wary of clicking links in emails which then ask me for passwords as these are often fake emails.May £10 a day challenge£19.61/£310Ebay challenge...£12.61/£2000

From your description, it reads as if you believed the email and clicked in the email then tried to sign in.
You didn't open a browser yourself and type in the ebay address on your keyboard.
If this is the case, you've just given a Nigerian criminal your account login details.
Apologies if I just misunderstood your original posting and you didn't do this at all.
Never click on a link in any email where your money's involved.0 -
i would inform ebay asap. although they still need a password for your paypal account (if you have one) this doesnt stop them from gaining access to your ebay account.0

Thanks for replies -can anyone give me a phone number for ebay though as I cannot find it on the homepage I'm afraid!
If this was a fake email then it was a bl00dy good one, all the links took me to an ebay page (even the ones like privacy policy etc at the bottom).
Just to clarify, I had an email 'from ebay' and then went to the genuine ebay by putting the address into the browser but my account was locked out by then. So I didn't follow any links in the original email (and it didn't ask me to, just asked me to log in and change password)
