Electric shower hose connection problems

Hi All,
I have an electric shower and I seem to have a problem with the hose/shower head connection to the electric shower body. Instead of the water running through the hose and out the head, it runs on the outside of the hose.
Has anyone had similar problems and fixed it?
I think that all I need to do is to remove the covering, cut off a bit of the hose and then re-attach it.
I know that there is a really high current going through the shower so I want to know how much I can fix before it starts getting dangerous.
Thanks,
Pete.

I know nothing whatsoever, but it sounds to me like the rubber seal/washer isn't seating properly.
I'd unscrew the shower hose from the electric shower unit and poke about with the seal, make sure it's clean (no grit) and seating properly.
Only other thing I would question is whether the thread of the hose matches the thread of the wall-mounted unit. e.g. is there any way, for example, that either of them is non-standard? (I bought some fittings for a shower to be fitted once and they were german and a different standard, but just workable).0 -
I second PasturesNew's comment. The chances if the shower and hose are new that the rubber washer may have been left out or not seated right. If the shower was previousley working properly then it suggests that the washer has perrished, in which case its a perfectly safe job to fix and doesn't require any messing about inside the electruc shower.
If you do ever need to go insde the electric shower, you will be safe providing you isolate the power to the shower unit usually via a pull switch.
HTHSome people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0 -
If the shower is switched off then there is nothing to worry about. I am not sure as to why you think that you need to shorten the hose. I doubt whether they are meant to be shortened. I think that that they come in standard lengths. The leak that you mention is almost certainly caused by a damaged or missing sealing washer. That, or the connector is not done up tight. If you need to replace the whole hose then they are not expensive and are easy to replace, without tools, if my memory serves me right.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
The shower had worked previously and I have tried tightening the plastic screw, but to no avail (the hose seems loose when I pull/push it). There is one washer in there and it seems intact. However, I believe that I will have to replace the hose. I am assuming that the hoses all come in the same size such as this one:

All shower hoses should be the same fitting, but on some I have had to use two washers on a new hose, as the hose fitting can "bottom" on the shower unit. If it is the same hose though are you sure it's not cross threaded?
You don't need to take the shower apart.
Is it running down the hose, or coming from the safety vent on the bottom of the shower itself. The safety device stops the shower being damaged if the head is blocked, or it it overheats and builds up pressure. It's like the pressure relief on a pressure cooker, and needs to be replaced professionally.0 -
Thanks Mikey,
Two washers and a new hose did the trick.
