I hope someone can help me.
I recently purchased a dongle to access the internet because I do not have a landline. I have been very happy with it, and although it is slower than normal broadband, the delay in loading each web page is only a matter of seconds, even pages like the BBC page with lots of graphics.
Well, until 2 days ago...I now cannot get onto the forums on this site. The front page loads fine but when I click on forums, it sort of hangs. It says waiting for a reply on the bottom and the green line goes about half way and it just stays there. I left it like that last night and it took 20mins to bring the page up. Then when I clicked on the techie thread, the same thing happened.
I have tried at different times of the day and night but it is the same. I don't understand because it hasn't always been like it. I have even tried the dongle on a different laptop thinking it was just mine, but the same thing happened.
I can look around every other site, even the football and betting sites and it only happens on MSE forums.
I have Mcafree free trial pre installed on my laptop and wondered it this could be anything to do with it? Just seems funny that it has only just started?
Has anyone any ideas or can't I get on purely because the site is so popular and everyones trying to get on? I am using a normal pc at the moment and everything is ok
I hope I make sense because I'm not at all techie,

With some sites Firefox goes faster than Explorer, so that might be worth a try.0

try this; just to make sure you have not picked up something;
Malware Bytes
Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.- Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
- Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
- When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
- When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
- Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
- Then click Finish.
- MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
- On the Scanner tab:
- Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
- Then click on the Scan button.
- If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
- The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
- When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
- Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
- Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
- Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
- When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad.
- The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
- Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.

Thanks for the replies.
Can I download mbam with mcafree on the laptop? Will they conflict with each other?

Thankyou:-)
I will do this when I return home later and will post the reply tomorrow when I can use this pc again.

Although you may want to use the free Avast or Antivir instead of McAfee. In my experience McAfee is not only rubbish in slowing down the pc it also misses viruses (which kind of defeats the point) and slo does actually conflict quite badly with many things."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I have run the scan and no malicious items were detected.
I think that I will uninstall Mcafee and install Avast, Comodo and spybot to see if this speeds things up.
I could understand it more if I'd never been able to get on, but it only started 2days ago
Thanks for your help.

try - Start button - Run - Type 'cmd' - then type without the quotes 'ipconfig /flushdns - enter - then type again without the quotes 'sfc /purgecache' enter - type exit
note the space between the fig and / likewise for the sfc space/0 -
It won't let me do that. I get a message which says 'you must be an administrator running a console in order to use the sfc utility' ???0

Did it allow you to run the ipconfig?
Do you have Superantispware installed?
Just noticed that you are suggesting removing McAfee - follow this guide, especially the removal tool at stage 20
