Washer/Dryer..broken after 6 months, is this fair?

Hi all,
Earlier this year we bought a brand new washer/dryer for our new kitchen. About 3 months in it flooded...water all over, we couldn't do anything with it. The lights were flashing, none of the controls would work etc and it was full of water.
They sent the enginner out, he came about a week later and fixed it. Fine we thought...thats ok.
Then last week, it has gone nuts again...all the lights flashing on/off all the time, cant do anything with it at all. Again we wait a few days for the engineer, he says he has to order a new board and that it wont be for over a week.
So now we are in a position where we can't do any washing for ages and also having to take time off work for the 3rd time because they refuse to come at any other time.
I am just annoyed, we paid £400 for this product and honestly I dont ever think it has worked properly.
I would ideally like a refund and to buy another product. The lady on the phone said they can't do that unless the enginner says it is not repairable. Surely its not fair to buy something brand new and then a few months down the line, it has to be repaired/reconditioned.
Does anyone know where we stand or what we can do?
Thanks

what make is it?...i think genrally u only get 28 days to get the machine exchanged unless it has had reconised problems from day1...if its bosch they might exchange it (if u kick up a fuss)as a goodwill gester as youve had problem 3 months in,but as its only 2nd time its gone wrong il be surprised if any manufacturer will exchange it..0

Have a look at http://www.berr.gov.uk/whatwedo/consumers/fact-sheets/page38311.html
Sounds as if you have got good reason to request a replacement.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
where you went wrong is when you accepted the repair. should have asked for a replacement or a refund.
now you have the engineer out, its harder to get the above. you now have to let the engineer try and fx it in a reasonable time, before you can get the other options.Get some gorm.0 -
Thanks for all the replies..
Your right, I shouldn't have accepted the repair the first time but at the time our kitchen was flooded and we just needed it sorted out! No it has gone wrong thr second time it has really annoyed me..
I have had a look on consumer direct and I think I am going to write a letter to them complaining about it.
Not sure how else to go about it really...
