Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Thanks Heinz - I hadn't noticed that post.

I have updated the clock manually but didn't get the message mentioned. Will it still have updated ok?

I don't get the message either - because I use pre-dial on one of my DECT phones to get the time right to the second.

That 'how to' post was written from the perspective of someone manually doing the key pressing on a standard phone - my experience of doing that was of that annoying announcement being heard every time - probably becasue I was too slow following the procedure.

I was using a DECT phone too. I just hung up after letting it dial. When I read about the message I left it to see if there was nay message but there wasn't.

Pity there doesn't seem to be a way of checking it.

Going to a bit of an extreme, you could manually set the clock to 6.05am 27 October and then dial a geographical number (ideally, one you know won't be answered today).

If your Orchid would normally route that call via 1899, 18185 or 18866 and the tariff announcement is normally heard, you should hear it.

OK, that only proves you managed to set the clock to tomorrow but at least it proves you've managed it - and doing the same with the correct time/date should also work.

Did just as you suggested and got the tariff announcement from 1899. So seems all is well. I have now set it to the correct date/time.

Perhaps this manual way will work better anyway. I have been noticing that when I used the phone home method the clock seemed a bit out and if i tried to phone someone just after 6pm it would still give me the tariff announcement of 1899 instead of using Primus as it should.

    Have you found this?

Yes - but I don't let it worry me for the sake of 5p.

I've raised it with Orchid too and they tell me their servers should, as most of our PCs do, take their time from the internet - but I suppose there are bound to be minor variations even doing it that way.

  • Yup problems dialing home. CW client isn't connecting either. Never done the manual thing, but will give it a go.

Done it.. will just have to hope it's re-set ok.
