Hi
Can anyone help uncles laptop can't get onto AOL, he has AVG firewall laptop was going great until he downloaded AVG updates. He is on Vista
PC freezes sometimes when trying to log off, has got onto AOL via internet explorer a few times but it doesn't show the full aol opening page.
Been onto AOL and technician went through various steps saying the wireless router hadn't been updated, and then apologised and said an engineer will sort it out in 4 to 5 hours (not sorted) bit worried now whether the router has been left with no password security. How would I check that? I can check mine as there is a padlock next to my wireless name but I'm on XP and he is on Vista Home Basic.
Do you suggest taking AVG off and could anyone recommend another firewall, any advice greatly appreciated.

When you say" uncles laptop can't get onto AOL" do you mean he is on-line but not on aols browser?
Do you have the disc that came with the router? If you do you could try re-installing it.I have aol and i use zonelaarm and avg with no problems.
Which router is he using? It is easy to set up the passwords. As for the pc freezing maybe he needs to increase the amount of ram on his laptop and or reduce the number of applications he is using.
I am not a computer expert in anyway.0 -

Just be careful taking advice from the staff on the AOL helpline.
Yesterday AOL went off for the 4th time for me this week, there was yet another pre-recorded message on their helpline saying they were having 'telecommunication problems'.
A few hours later this message had been removed, yet I still was unable to connect. One of their so-called 'helpers' suggested that I should re-set my wireless router by poking a pen in the reset button  and she would guide me through setting it up again. I wasn't prepared to do this as I had huge problems setting up the thing in the first place and I ended up getting a computer guy round who spent 2 hours doing it, as AOL seemed to make the whole process over complicated!
In the end I hung up, unplugged the router for 5 minutes instead, and hey presto...connected again.
AOL has become a swear word in this house and unfortunately we're stuck with them for another 6 months. I0
