MFI and their idea of customer service

Options
We made an appointment with a so-called kitchen-designer at MFI. He designed our kitchen to our specifications on his computer. We chose the cupboards and he ordered all the extra stuff- plinths, worktops and all the rest of it. We've got all the cupboards in and got a carpenter in to fit the worktops. The salesman had ordered 3 worktops because he said it needed a mitre joint. The carpenter said that to make a joint on the diagonal it would be very week and would have no support. Upshot is we have 1 left over.

Rang MFI to ask them to take it back. No way- their charter says you have to report it within 7 days. Has anyone tried to get a carpenter out within 7 days? Rang Trading Standards who said it doesn't matter about their charter- THEY designed it, THEY ordered too many, THEY should take it back. Rang MFI and asked for a manager. He was really really rude. He said he wasn't interested in Trading Standards!
