Netgear firmware upgrade problem

I'm trying to update the firmware on the 2 x WGE111 wireless gaming adapters we have but when I try to access 192.168.0.202 to do it, I keep getting timed out. I've not got the page to load yet.

I've searched and it seems that loads of people have the same problem but using IE instead of Mozilla or Firefox worked for them.

Problem is...I AM using IE.

Any ideas?

Do you have two of these, both connected to your network? If so, and you haven't changed the default IP address on one of them, you will get unpredictable behaviour as they will both be on the same IP address.

If this is the problem, just powering one off temporarily will let you get to the other to change its address.

If not, have you tried the troubleshooting guide?:

Does it NEED updating? I had a netgear which died after I attempted to update the firmware. Only update if your having a problem with the net.

Yes, fwor...2 of them connected. Doesn't make any difference if one is disconnected or not. I've read the guide (s) and still not had any joy.

I finally managed to get the page to load where I could change the WEP settings etc, but every time I try to save them, the connection is lost. Now when I scan for them, they dont show up at all.

I've also changed the router from a Netgear DG834G to a Belkin F5D7633uk4A as it was impossible for 2 gamers to be online at the same time with the Netgear, one was always getting kicked off. The Belkin was touted as being good for this type of scenario.

I've got the new Belkin set up and 2 laptops, a PS3 and 1 xbox360 can all connect to the net successfully IF the security is disabled and I just use the Mac address allow facility. The other xbox360 cant connect at all, it keeps failing on the IP address, even although it's address has been listed on the 'allow' page..

The page on the xbox where the security is shown..is all greyed out and cant be accessed. I'm assuming this is because it's not set on the Netgear Gaming Adapter. But I can't access the adapter to set it!

    I have no hair left.

As for the firmware, I've given up on the idea of updating it, I just need everything to work together again.

Ok - if I read you right and you have 2 of them on one LAN with their default settings then you definitely have two devices with the same IP address. You have to resolve that first, as you will continue to get problems until it is.

What IP addresses are being assigned to your other devices? Are they all assigned automatically or manually entered? If you have a mix, are they consistent (i.e. same address range and subnet)?

Up until now, all addresses have been assigned automatically. They all have the same start 192.168.x.x with just the last digit being changed in each case. Subnet is always the same.

As this one adapter doesn't seem to be being 'seen' (and I cant seem to access the correct page to change it's address) I tried to manually change the address on the xbox that can't connect. I took the details from the xbox that does correct but changed the last digit. I also input these details into the mac allow part on the router but still no joy.

When I change the settings on the xbox back to automatically assign ip....I end up with an address starting 169. something or other.

Adapter is still not showing up on the network even with the other one disconnected. I'm now wondering if it has developed a fault.

I dont see how to change it's ip address unless I can access it, and I dont seem to be able to.

    .

That looks suspiciously like you have two devices acting as DHCP servers, issuing addresses in different ranges. You would certainly not expect to see a single DHCP server doing this. Is it possible that both your new router and the one gaming adapter that's working both have DHCP server turned on?

I have no idea. How would I check this? I know DHCP IS on at the new main router but as I cant access anything to do with the adapter(s) how would I deal with this?

The one time I did manage to get an 'information' page loaded for an adapter (don't even know if it was this one)...it's details were that it's locality was USA but I can't remember anything else I'm afraid.
