Egg Guinea Pig Card

I've had an Egg visa which I got a few years ago when I left uni for the interest free balance transfer.

I'm now interested in a cashback card. I'm not going to be spending enough to get a Amex Platinum and the Egg Cashback Guinea Pig card thing seems better than an AMEX blue.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the Egg Visa I already have and this cashback card thing?

Cheers

The Egg Card is a pure credit card - interest rates about 15%, 0% offers etc.

The Egg Money Card (formerly blue card now guinea pig card) is a new proposition aimed at people who tend to pay in full - it is also trying to carve out a niche as a 'card based current account'

You basically get cashback (2% til Christmas) then back down to 1%. Some good deals with online retailers. A low rate of interest for borrowing and you also get interest if you 'load' the card and use it like a current account for all your purchases.

You can also withdraw cash from ATMs without incurring a nasty fee.

The credit limit is often less than a credit card and you aren't guaranteed to get the best interest rate - they use risk based pricing.

The amex card is probably going to pay higher cashback long term (because amex charge retailers more for accepting the card) but isn't as widely accepted (because retailers don't like paying higher charges!)

If you want a visa/mastercard based card for purchases it is pretty good, although not the very best.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but the 2% was on offer from 16th November to 10th December.

    Hi Rafter....

So what is the best card for purchases then???? I've been considering an egg card for purchases myself but you reckon there is a better one so what is it??? (I probably don't earn or spend enough to get the gold or plat. cards by the way!!!)

    Jules,

Best to look at Martin's articles in the credit card section of this site. He regularly updates the best offers and, as you can see from the above, the Egg Cashback 2% deal has already finished.

If your income is going to be an issue you may struggle getting the best cashback products from the american banks or american express.

I suggest you try the egg money card (particularly if their online offers are useful to you) or try the nationwide cashback offer. Not the best rate but a useful card to have as it is the best for making overseas purchases and will save you 2.75% in commission versus most cards.

    Good luck.
