Hello, I've been looking at a family friends computer for them, it's stopped sending email earlier this week, it can recieve mail ok.
I cant remember the exact error message, but it's SMTP authenication error.
I can access the email account through the website, so the password and address is correct -
PHONENUMBER @ orange.net
Nothing has changed on their PC and it has worked in the past, the pop and smtp settings are:-
pop.orange.net
smtp.orange.net
The orange website help is no help! I've changed the settings to those on their 'How to' guides and then it completely stops working, if change the addresses to:-
pop.orangehome.co.uk
smtp.orangehome.co.uk
anyone else come accross this, I see quite a few results if I do a google, but most refer to changing the settings to those listed, but it doesnt fix the problem.

A friend of mine used ....
pop.orangehome.co.uk
smtp.orange.co.uk
.... and it worked.
Another friend of mine used ....
193.252.22.138 instead of smtp.orangehome.co.uk
.... and it worked.0 -
I use smtp.orange.co.uk to send from a non orange address (my own domain) but it only works when conected with orange at home I have to change it if I send an email when conected elsewhere (not orange).
My other smtp does not work when conected on orange. Its a bit fustrating really!!
Basically try smtp.orange.co.uk0 -
Is the error message:
An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'pop.freeserve.com', Server: 'smtp.freeserve.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '421 Cannot connect to SMTP server 193.252.22.134 (193.252.22.134:25), connect error 10060', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 421, Error Number: 0x800CCC67
My boss had this problem. He could read and send email via webmail but experienced intermittent issues when using Outlook Express. He had this for months and spent hours on the phone to the Orange helpdesk. They recommended increasingly desperate measures including re-installing MS Office, re-installing Windows XP then wiping the PC and re-installing everything!
He did eventually find a solution but you're not going to like it. He changed ISP and there's not been a problem since.0 -

For the love of god....
He got that error message because he was trying to send it using Freeserve's server on an Orange connection and in common with pretty much all ISPs, you can only send using their servers when using their connection.0 -

it might have something to do that freeserve was purchased by wannadoo /orange and the accounts merged and maybe now they have stopped the old SMTP for-wards?? just my thoughts, if the pop part still works ie the email is still being received then just change the SMTP to oranges, as listed above.
