Can't stay as I need to get to bed but there was another poster who was having this sort of issue. I'll PM and ask him to look at your thread to see if he can give you some advice.

Not sure a GP will be much help. it's a lack of will power, knowledge and responsibility and living beyond your means.

Did you come from a poor background? What goes through your head when signing yourself up to more debt?
I work with people with addictions and you are talking absolute nonsense.

  • We all enjoy buying things 'on tick' at times Peka - what the OP seems to be describing is an addiction, which is far more serious and difficult to deal with. Which is why it's great that he's admitted to having a problem and is seeking help with it.

FYP, I agree with you - ixwood is talking rubbish, and possibly damaging rubbish at that. I worked with people with mental health problems including addictions for 10 years. CBx

This is not a dig but I cant understand how you managed to get so much new credit so quickly.
You cant go bankrupt again until; it is 5 yrs since you last went bankrupt.

You can go bankrupt again within 5 years, (but expect more of an indepth interview from the OR.) Please take advise from one of the debt charities so you can help decide what is best for you.
  • Hi Bevstar
Both of the above may be of use as they deal primarily according to the insovlency helpline with shopping addictions.

Good luck - you've taken the first step by admitting that you have a problem; let the next steps be easier and far less painful.

Yes you can - I had a few cases when working at the OR's office where there was a second bankruptcy within 5 years. There is no time limit. Though 2nd time in under 6 years may be considered misconduct and BRO/BRU may be applied.

    hi all
there seems a lot of different oppinions on here about what the problem is however thanks for all your advice it is greatly recieved,
first thing i would ask is what does bro/bru mean ?
also i hadnt considered another bancruptcy as i didnt think it would help me to keep taking the easy option dealing with it may help me learn from it !we will see ,
i would also like to reply to the above who think i spend for the sake of it its not like that i dont know why i do it but i know it causes problems every time i do at the very least it puts more and more pressure on my very very understanding wife
oh and i have had a troubled life but nothing in comparison to most people ,i now have a great wife ,three wonderful kids and im a works manager so lifes not that bad now
aside from the obvious debt problems
    cheers tim

Sounds like you just need some financial education, not a gp.

Pretty much all debt is bad. The "Good debt" and "bad debt" thing is rubbish.

The need for immediate gratification, financial naivety and debt is what keeps a lot of poor people poor.

We've all been brainwashed by the media and marketing (pretty much the same thing.) into the "I deserve it" rubbish and keeping up with the Jones snobbery. Sadly those that can least afford it generally.

Spending money does not equal happiness. It's just a temporary distraction.

The best things in life aren't things.
