hey guys have the hp photosmart c5180 all in one ... had a problem in the last few days my pc keeps saying it does not recognise the device connected to the usb port ... have followed all the on line hp instructions and am getting now where . I today done one of their scans to see if they could identify the hardware and then download the drivers needed as I am trying to reinstall and have lost the disc ... after an hour of down loads nothing but I have found some stuff for a lazer jet printer ????? All I want to do is pick the correct thing from their list of drivers download and then run then connect my printer ... they haven't made it easy to pick the right thing from the list or explain how to run it when you have downloaded it ???? does my printer have to be run through the ethernet cable at the same time ???? I have tried changing usb ports everything I am stumped

is the photosmart software still installed on your pc? if it is open it and click on the settings icon on the top right of the screen. you then click on general, then click on software updates. you then have two choices. select automatically check for updates online. after that there is a link below those two choices to do a check for any updates online immediately. try that and hopefully you will be sorted. otherwise i fear you may need to contact hp for a new disc. of course i am assuming your software is the same as mine because i have the c5280 all in one printer.
if you go here you can search for software and drivers for your printer. just put c5180(after selecting your country) in the search box and the rest should be straight forward.

I have multiple usb printers set up on my pc and sometimes, the usb hub is a little slow to fire up and seems to swap the port that the printers are in as far as windows is concerned, I then end up with multiple printers but some of them are just not recognised as to what they really are, you could try going in to the control panel and deleting/uninstalling all trace of it and re-installing again from scratch, do not forget to install the software before plugging in the printer, this has caught me out in the past as it causes the PC not to recognise the device even after the software is installed. Whilst I like the printers and the quality HP's software can be a real pain as it insists on installing all sorts of other stuff apart from just the drivers.Signature No Longer acceptable -
