DVLA bureaucratic nightmare - Help!
I owned a old VW Golf which I was going to sell because I bought a new car.
It was only worth 500 (P-reg/96) so I didn't renew the tax as it wasn't economical. I was not in my house for three weeks as I was caring for a sick relative and the council towed it away from our street because it did not have a tax disc.
At this point, no problem - I broke the law and my car was towed away. But this is where it gets confusing. I rang the pound where my car was and found out that to reclaim would cost almost the value of the car.
So I filled out the form from the DVLA that I had received from the clamping unit 'disclaiming' ownership. In the end, it was easier just for them to crush it - tough lesson learnt but it took the car off my hands.
However I have received another letter from the DVLA in Swansea fining me 80 pounds for not relicensing the car. Am i still liable?
Surely with it being crushed I have been punished enough - what should I do?
Any help/advice much appreciated!

It's not a bureaucratic nightmare, It's a simple fine for not licencing or declaring SORNThis is an open forum, anyone can post and I just did !0

if you ring them then explain the circumstances they have the authority
to cancel the fine. (be very nice and very apologetic)make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

You can't ring them, it cannot be discussed over phone, it is a payment line only.
Put it all in writing, send copies of any evidence you have to support your claim (the more the better) and you will get a response within 21 days to let you know if your appeal is successful or not.
