Challenge your insurers!

This is a little note to say don't just accept a renewal quote...

I got a car insurance renewal quote in (£326)
so I did a quick comparison online which came up with a cheaper quote (£275)
then I phoned my insurers, told them about the difference in price, and they dropped my quote to £274!

Saved £52 in 10 minutes!

I agree with you, never just accept the renewal quote.

Our 2 car policies are due for renewal in November and the price for renewing both cars came in at £802.
I used 3 comparison sites and got a really good quote for each car from 1 particular co but realised they hadn't added the NCB protection I asked for
I called them up and adding the NCB protection took the price up a bit but not any more than I expected.

Anyway, the price for both cars from this co was £600 :T

I called our current co and said I wasn't going to renew if they couldn't match or better my best quote. They done whatever they do and came back with a price of £665.
Hubby still wants me to call a few co's though as he thinks I can still shave a few more £££ off :rotfl:
:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:

    My 2006 premum was £780.

My 2007 renewal premium was £1250.

    My 2007 premium I paid was £460.

I almost didnt renew the insurance with them since they were trying to sting me for 3x the price, but I couldnt get it any cheaper so I went with it in the end, but was v annoyed that they were prepared to charge me so much. That was with an extra years NCD from the previous year, no accidents losses or convictions!

Renwal in dec.....will be interesting to see what they try this year!

The best quotes I've found for car insurance yet are Admiral/Elephant.co.uk
    - aswell as being ubber competitive they also offer "fast track" no claims bonus'...
    - eg: 10 Month Policy and will give you a full years no claims bonus which you can take to another company if you wish
    - this year I started my own policy with no real previous cover (living with my partner helps bring it down too) was quoted £400 for a Peugeot 206 - took their 10 Month fast track policy which was £350

Im not a fan of these fast track no claims policies. I dont think they reprsent good value for money, considering you end up paying more pro-rata for the policy.

£460 is very good for the cover that I have with my circumstances, but this year I am expecting a lot cheaper to keep me with them!

Why should another company accept a fast track no claim as this is fraud

I've never understood how companies are allowed to do this either.

Never renew your insurance unless you've checked against other companies, even within the same group. I managed to save nearly £100 this year by moving from Bell to Admiral (same group) despite adding business cover. this is the 5th year I've been within the Admiral/Elephant/Bell group and I've saved money every year.
  • Got my renewal through for Admiral £226. Went onto their website and put the same details in and came up with £182. Rang them up and told them, they got the quote off the system and then offered me the same policy for £175. They even undercut themselves.!!!!!! That is the same premium I paid last year so no increase. Yes I did do Gocompare and other sites but they came up equal with the best quote.

How is it fraud?... If it was fraud surely the FSA or whichever Regulator that governs Car Insurance wouldn't let this form of insurance through
    - why shouldn't it be allowed? its just 2 months (60 Days) less than a full years no claims
    - ...even if a rival company said they'd only give me 4% No Claims on that year (rather than 5% ) I'd still be happy enough provided the rivals insurance was competitive enough
    - I was merely pointing out to people (particularly young drivers with no prior policy holding that there were alternatives)

I accept they are slightly dearer but I'll build up my No Claims Bonus' quicker
    - I think they are a great idea for someone in my circumstances

Quite simple really, if you get your new insurance from a different company and tell them you have 1 years no claims when in fact you only have 10 months then that is lying, or you tell them you have 5 years and in fact you only have 4 years and 2 months isnt that lying

Im not sure in the answer but your new insurance company may not pay out because of it, i think its just a ploy to keep people with Admiral Group of insurance.

But it's not lying if your fast tracking insurance company gives you a renewal notice that says 1year (not 10months) or 5years(not 4years 2 months).

You'd then have documented evidence to back up your claim and since all the insurance comnpanies talk to each other it can be easily verified and would be confirmed as genuine.

    No fraud at all.

But to concur with the OP, my renewal a couple of years ago came in at something like £410. i got a cheaper quote and then phoned my own company to say don't renew the policy. They then reduced the premium by around £70.

I did the same this year but without actually arranging new cover. I'd changed my car in and the new renewal was around £600. I phoned them up to ask if it could be reduced since I was impressed by their service when i was hit in 2006. But the price was only reduced by around £35 this time. I then got another quote that was around £150 cheaper than that so I saved a bunch. Premium for this year was something like £440.
