Freesat from sky or Freeview

I've currently got a freeview box, the reception is hit and miss, but value for money it has paid for itself ten times over, but the poor reception is doing my head in.

I've just seen the freesat box from Sky for £150 http://www.freesatfromsky.co.uk/ It looks pretty good and the signal would be digital and a lot better than the freeview box.

However I have noticed that sky sports news is not available on the "freesatfromsky" box whilst its on the freeview box, madness!!!!!!!!!!

As anyone else got the freesatfromsky box yet, what are your thoughts, hows the reception, how was the fitting, was it worth £150??

I've seen offers for a free years worth of Sky subsription on its lowest option (i.e. £15 a month) for £149. Maybe its worthwhile getting that for the first year. Then once you have Sky fitted (which they will do for free as part of the service) you won't need to worry about the installation. After the year you can cancel and get the Freesat viewing card for 1 year.

Please not E4 and More4 is not avaiable on freesat.

Great, so Sky Sports News and E4 is not on freesat. At £150 I expect all the same channel I can get on my £29.99 freeview box, but sadly two of the most popular channels at my house would be missing.

This freesat box is not looking so good now.

Get the basic package from sky instead on an1 year contract.

£7.50 for the 1st 3 months then £15.

Only a little more.

After the year is up cancel and the card turns into a free to view card the same as what is supplied with freesatfromsky.

You get to keep the box as well after the 1st year.

I have had Freesat from the start, after junking my SKY contract. There are many other channels you can get, and digital radio too. Reception is fantastic, only one heavy rainstorm stopped it for 30 seconds this year. You can find a list of channels by looking here http://www.silvertv.co.uk/aerial/satellite_tv_freesat.htm

BBC and ITV are launched early next year a freesat service not to be confused with Sky who I believe BBC had the name first. Its a free service using satellite so reception may not be the problem.

You don't even need a freesat card, just get a secondhand digibox and dish. The freesat card is only for channel 4, five and Sky 3 now that all the BBC and ITV channels are free to air, but you'll get 4, 5 and Sky 3 with your terrestrial freeview box.

There are lots of FTA channels on the astra 2 satellite (the one Sky uses) - many are low budget channels, but there is some interesting stuff...

Sky use the 'freesat' name under licence from the BBC. I guess this arrangement will end once the BBC/ITV venture is in business.

Unfortunately, Channel 4, E4, More4 and five are contracted Sky for a few years yet, and there is no sign yet that they will be joining the BBC freesat venture - although it is hoped that they will.

This may mean that the BBC freesat system will begin with access to only the BBC, ITV and the FTA channels.
