hello, I am looking for a new television, but its been nearly 20 years since I last purchased one.
Given the rapid advances, I was wondering the key things I should look out for when using filters. I know I want a flat screen 42 inches plus and thats about it!
There seem to be about 12 different filters and I am sure not all are relevant. I dont want to over narrow it i.e. HD, resolution, screen format etc
thanks

Have a look at this forum - http://www.avforums.com/forums/index.php
Plenty of comments and feedback there.
Also I would look at this website - http://www.soundandvision.co.uk/
Ring them - they are very good and will give you the pros and the cons.0 -
I've always found John Lewis to have very helpful and knowledgeable staff. They may not be the cheapest, but you get a 5 yr guarantee with all their TVs.0

How importmant is a tv with 100hz capabilities?
100hz with 1080p is suppose to be true HD
however i have seen a 200hz tv out now
personally I would stick with a LCD(i've had plasma and LCD) as they seem brighter but all depends on how much you spend and on which make/model.....you buy cheap you get cheap. If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -
Pixels are not THAT important. You need to be looking at manufacturers (Pioneer, Panasonic, Sony and Samsung are the top 4), number of hdmis (As everything will be connected this way soon) and the connections needed for what you have now (Scarts etc)
100Hz is NOT important, in fact many screens are in fact worse with it switched on
REVIEWS are the most important thing about tvs
This site will give you a good idea ~

And it's all complete and utter rubbish. Quoting the Hz rate is just stupid with a LCD or Plasma because they don't refresh the screen like a CRT TV does so it's completely and utterly irrelevent. It's about as irrelevent as knowing what the capital city of Botswana is to what you want to have for your dinner.
What is important in LCD and Plasmas is response time, resolution, viewing angle and contrast ratio. You want the lowest response time and the highest resolution, viewing angle and contrast ratio you can find.
In additino to that, connectivity is important. Make sure all HDMI sockets support HDCP copy protection and that there's enough of them.0
