Baby waking up soaking wet

Hi all, I hope someone can help me.

My baby (14 months) for the past week or so, has been waking up in the morning totally soaking wet. I have tried changing brand & size of nappy I use and it's not helped.
hat usually happens during the week is we get back from nursery about 530pm and he has a little bit of porridge if he hasn't eaten much tea at nursery, then I give him a drink of warm milk before putting him to bed.

I have always given him a drink of milk and then put him straight to bed so I am confused as to why suddenly he's waking up so soaking wet?

I am reluctant to change the milk as he settles really well on it, I have tried trying to get him to go to bed about 30 mins after milk then changing him before bed, but most of the time he's totally shattered and will start falling asleep in my arms (something i don't want to get into the habit of).

Has anyone else had this problem and what did they do?

My nappy experiences are long ago, and I don't remember this problem as mine never went to sleep so early and right through the night (if this is what is happening?) Would it be worth changing his nappy before you go to bed, or at least long enough beforehand to get him settled again if he wakes up too much to go straight off again?

without cutting down on his milk (i swear by a cup of warm milk before bed!) try to keep an eye on what fluids he's having after about 5.30.

I can also recommend tescos essentials nappies too (not the superfit) I have found with all 3 of mine they have worked a treat and I can't recommend them highly enough!

If the nappies are a little big they may leak so try moving down a size. Also make sure the material outside the elastic bit round the leg isn't tucked in, that can create a huge mess also!!

Good luck, I hope you get sorted soon, I know its horrible when your baby gets that wet. x

  • Whenever any of mine have gone through this phase I've changed their nappies just as I go to bed. (I'm an expert at changing babies' nappies and clothes without waking them! lol):rotfl:

I'm sure yours will grow out of this soon but in the meantime a late nappy change will keep him dry till the morning and stop him waking up too early.

  • I pretty much agree with what all the above posters have advised, so hope you find something that works soon! :)

Perhaps he has started to drink more during the day at nursery? Or has he been drinking blackcurrent? They recommend not giving children blackcurrent when they are older if they bed wet, so it must be some kind of duretic.

I always changed my son when i went to bed too at the same time as a dream feed when he was small, and just a change when he was older: he never woke up.

have this issue with my 3 year old, most days he will wake up fine with his nappy, wet but not soaking, while there will be some days that he will have wet through to the bed

can you not change the nappy before you go to bed, once through the night, that said i would be wary if he has started soaking the bed with no reason as having a child with diabetes and being through all that, that was one of the first symptons.

would try changing through the night though, what nappies do you use? i find pampers was the best at keeping it all in

i also noticed that recently, my daughters (10 months) nappies have been wetter in the morning than usual - sometimes so bad that it leaked through to her pjs -- i have found that reducing the amount of milk she gets before bedtime has helped no end! she used to take 5 oz of milk, and i have reduced it to 3, and her nappies are damp, but rarely ever leaking through her pjs!

  • Are your babies nappies leaking because they are full? My baby sometimes leaks because he is lying on his front and I know my friend had trouble with her DS when he was a little older if she didnt make sure his 'boy bits' were pointing down the way when she put his nappy on :o

I second the blackcurrent juice making them pee! It does seem to 'store' for later somehow.

Ask the nursery to only give him water, milk or very weak orange, and to make a note of how much he is drinking. Kids can drink wayy too much without you realising. Is his juice cup one of the large 9oz ones? If so, change it for a smaller one and work out a drink routine, when he gets milk, when he gets juice etc. Don't leave him with a juice cup all day. Ofcourse let him drink if he is thirsty, but dont leave him with a cup as he may just drink it thirsty or not (I know kids like this).

As well as that, I'd just change him before you go to bed (so put him in PJ's with trousers as its easier to pull them down a bit rather than remove a sleepsuit.
