you can read it here
http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2008/oct/25/consumeraffairs-banks1Ryanair says its choice of Electron as the only fee-free card is down to a deal to boost the card's popularity. "We're working with Visa to promote the Visa Electron card, and we do so by encouraging all passengers booking on Ryanair to use it, as this enables passengers to avoid any optional debit- or credit-card handling fees," a spokesman for the budget airline says.0 -
To anyone who's tempted to get an Electron card: Don't bother trying to get one via Halifax if you're in a hurry - been waiting about three weeks now since submitting an application online and have not heard anything back. Grrrrr.0

Sounds like something's gone wrong with the system. Have you phoned them?0 -
Mine took a week.
Yep mine too.
By the way, I'm not sure it's all that useful having a major newspaper extolling the virtues of Electron. It'll just encourage Ryanair to find yet a more obscure card to use as its 'free' card. Probably, they'll go the bmibaby way and issue a Ryanair CC to be the only free option.0 -
There's already a Ryanair CC. I got it thinking there'd be no extra charges...I was wrong!0

The Thomas Cook card you can get is affectively an electron card so I was wondering if this could be used to buy flights.0

Had one ages ago. Used to get a free flight voucher for spending £1500 a quarter or two free flights for spending more than £3000. Problem was the free flights weren't actually free once you'd added the taxes and other charges and you had to phone a premium rate number to claim them. I soon discovered it was actually more expensive to claim the free flight than it was to book online so I decided to tear the card up and get an American Express card for the perks and an electron card to book my ryanair flights.0
