It's easy for me to say, but somehow you need to sort this! Otherwise, this will just be one crisis of many. Financially, you'd probably be better off on your own but, obviously, there are other reasons for maintaining your relationship. Is there any way of getting through to your husband - maybe through friends or family?
You're totally right, whilst my OH doesn't earn a huge amount its enough to mean we don't get any extra help with tax credits other than the basic. He refuses to share an account and I have to ask for money, and have to justify why I need it.
I have mentioned it to his best friend who he listens to, and he was appalled. I don't know whether he's bought the subject up with hubby yet.
Sorry for whinging, I'm just tired of struggling all the time and being behind with absolutely everything.96 items decluttered so far in 20130 -
Ali, SP do have a social tariff, though I don't know the details (others have suggested that these aren't really that competitive though.
Another lifeline may be this site

and you can apply online.
HTH, cheers, scotti0 -

Looks like the OP has investigated this before and doesn't qualify. Anyway, just in case the SP social tariff details seem to be;
Scottish Power's Carefree Plus
Scottish Power's Carefree Plus is a tariff which provides cheaper energy for certain customers. It was launched in April 2008 and offers a fixed yearly saving of up to £59.35 for electricity customers and £52.21 for gas customers paid as a monthly rebate over the next 12 months.
The Carefree Plus package is available to Carefree Register (Priority Services Register) members who are 60 years of age and over and are in receipt of one of a number of social welfare benefits. You must pay by any method other than Monthly Direct Debit, Standing Order and Fuel Direct.
To apply for the Carefree Register call: 0845 2700 700 or download the application form from Scottish Power.
There's Social Tariff info here, which also has other links;

You say that the saving is paid as a monthly payment. Is that £50+ per month for both gas and electricty or round £4 per month each!0 -

I suspect there's a clue in the phrase 'a fixed yearly saving of up to…'. Unless their definition of 'yearly' is even more corrupt than nPower's.0
