Cancelling Amex blue card - how long does it take?

I cancelled mine 2 1/2 weeks ago and haven't heard anything yet (I sent it recorded delivery so I know it arrived). I know it's Christmas and they might be extra-busy, but I just wondered how long it usually takes. I can't face talking to the twit I spoke to last time I rang them!

When I cancel CC's, I just ring them and tell them to cancel it, then I destroy the card. Did AMEX ask for your card back?

Actually, to be more accurate, I normally destroy the cards in a fit of rage, then call them

Yes, that is why I sent it recorded delivery - I didn't want them claiming they didn't receive it. It's just the last time I rang them the cocky bloke on the 'phone kept asking me stupid questions (I was asking serious questions about my account and he said, "Are you going anywhere tonight?" and when I steered him back on to the subject he asked me what the weather was like where I lived!). I just sent the card back with a letter and asked for them to send my a letter confirming the closure of the account. I am just trying to put off ringing them until I have to!

I sent them a letter over a month ago and have not heard any thing back - I just have not got around to chasing it up yet.
